Weekend Recap

I love the recaps that Nanette does at the end of each weekend so I am totally biting off her and starting my own set of recaps. Thanks for the inspiration dear!

I had originally planned on doing a little shopping and then heading to dance class Friday night, but instead, I was pleasantly surprised by a phone call from Jim saying he was taking the night off and wanted us to go out to dinner. Yay! We headed to our favorite little french place at the Farmer's Market, Monsieur Marcel, for steak and lots of red wine. When we got there we were excited to see that they had updated their menu and while keeping the old favorites had greatly expanded their appetizer, cheese and wine selections. We started with a cheese platter and a bottle of cabernet, then filet mignon with gratin potatoes for me and the steak special for Jim. It was fantastic (as usual) and it left us no room for dessert. Jim and I had a great time just hanging out and talking and it was the nice end to a long week at work.

Saturday Jim rolled into the office fairly early, which left me with the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted. First stop was the gym for cardio fusion class from my favorite fitness instructor Deb. After class it was off to Pasadena to have lunch and shop with a friend. We also made time to try 21 Choices and see what all the hype was about. This place always seems to have a line out the door and neither of us could figure out why. Once inside, it became pretty clear --- it is like Cold Stone but with yogurt instead of ice cream. And the list of add-ins is extensive, with everything from fruit to candy and cereal to cookies. I went with the plain vanilla with strawberries and peaches and my friend got chocolate with butterfinger. We both sat their with huge grins on faces lapping up the sugary goodness so I think it is fair to say we thought it was good. And well worth the wait in my opinion.

Saturday night was fairly mellow. Jim came home for a late dinner and then we watched Rounders, which I had never seen before. I really liked it and it was a good choice for the evening.

Sunday was a pretty vanilla day. A late breakfast at home, a short and fairly inexpensive trip to Target (I got out for under $60!) and dance class in the evening. We've just finished dinner and Jim is back in the office working while I'm writing this and watching the Tony awards (we don't have HBO, so no Sopranos finale for us tonight). All in all, it was a pretty good last few days.

And tomorrow starts yet another week.... sigh.

This stuff is beyond yummy. If you like Butterfinger candy, you'll LOVE this ice cream! That is all. :-)

I've Been Tagged!

WeeMo tagged me for a meme. I've never done one of these before so this is pretty exciting! Each player writes seven random facts/habits about themself and then tags another 7 people at the end of the entry. Those 7 people need write their own blog entry and a synopsis of these rules. Remember to leave a comment on the blogs of the people you've tagged so they know to read your blog.

1. I can fall asleep anywhere. And I do mean anywhere. I have fallen asleep in the back of a cab, sitting on the sidewalk, on the hearth of a stone fireplace, in a movie theater... the list could go on and on. When I'm sleepy, I just fall asleep. I'm not picky about locations and noise levels. This is in direct contrast to my husband whose insomnia ranges from mild to severe depending on what is going on at work/in life. They say opposites attract, right?

2. While I have visited the capital cities of several European countries (England, Scotland, France, Italy), I have never visited the capital of the US. How sad is that? Its on the short list of US vacations hubby and I want to take, but so far, I've only seen it in pictures.

3. I was a big science nerd all through school and participated in science fairs every year from 3rd grade through 11th grade in high school. I made it to the state level 3 years straight in high school and is something I'm still pretty proud of.

4. I've been drinking coffee since I was in Jr. High, but didn't start drinking it black until I started dating my husband 7 years ago. I would often study at his apartment and he would make me coffee to help me stay awake, but never had any cream in his fridge for me. After choking down black coffee for several months and cringing with every sip, I finally started to like it. Now I think it tastes gross if there is cream or milk in it.

5. I cannot stand clutter. I can't think straight when my desk at work or my apartment is a mess. Thus, I am constantly tidying things up to maintain my sanity.

6. Pedicures are my big Friday treat every several weeks. I love pouring over a fashion magazine and sipping a cup of coffee while my toes get pretty and the massage spa chair relaxes my back. It is just heaven.

7. I LOVE ice cream! I would eat it every night for dessert if I could... but then I'd be big as a house.

I am now tagging skye blu photography, twentysomething, candy and sushi, blameitonthebabymaker, and theoretically speaking.

I'm gonna be better

Really, I am. This poor blog has been so neglected, its just sad. But tonight hubby is working late, I've been tagged to do a meme and its time to add more content to this little blog of mine. Schedule for this evening is as follows:

  • Hit the gym for my weekly hour of hell with my personal trainer - yay!
  • Home to shower and straighten the apartment
  • Eat dinner (leftover chili I made last night --- soooo good!)
  • Plop on the couch for So You Think You Can Dance and get to work on this blog!

New content is right around the corner... promise.
