It's a beautiful morning

I've got my first Peppermint Mocha of the season and I'm still enjoying the after-glow of the historic win by Barack Obama last night. Such a freaking great day!

A few personal thoughts from last night:

* I thought McCain's concession speech was really good. It felt like the first time we've seen the real McCain all campaign, which is a bit sad. I'm glad he went out on a positive note after a hard fought campaign.
* Palin still scares the crap out of me. I stand by the fact that she was the nail in McCain's proverbial coffin. I know a lot of folks for whom she was an absolute deal-breaker, which doesn't surprise me in the least. I truly hope that she is not the future of the Republican party.
* I was already aware of this, but OMG, how great of an orator is President Obama?!?! He is the perfect blend (at least for me) of pulpit-style rallying and eloquent speaker. It comes so natural for him, which is not an easy feat. I think that many Americans find his style comforting and I think this will bode well for him in the years to come.
* I feel so hopeful after last night's speech. Many parts of it brought me to tears as I felt like he was really speaking to each of us personally, charging all of us with helping him get this wonderful nation back on track. I'm excited, I'm hopeful and I can't wait to see how the next few months will unfold.
* It looks like Prop 8 will, in fact pass, which makes me sad. I'm fairly confident that it will eventually be over-turned by our courts, but what a sad day for many couples here in California. Sigh. I think we're definitely moving in the right direction as a country, but we're obviously not completely there yet.

Happy Hump Day everyone!

  1. I couldn't agree with you more...on every point. Such a historic day. Your comment on Kay's blog made me laugh...and smile. :) In due time...but not quite ready to become a mommy myself. Maybe next year. :)

  2. McCain's speech was really touching to me. He went out with grace.

I went to sleep before Obama's appearance . . . it was REALLY late in the east coast :-P I watched clips of it this morning though!

I don't like Palin. I think McCain's biggest mistake in this election was selecting Palin as his running mate.

    Prop 8 makes me sad.

  3. The passage of Prop 8 makes me ill.

  4. Ditto on everything you said.

Palin is a freakshow and is ultimately the reason why McCain lost. I too cringe to think of her as being the future of the Republican party.

    I loved the speeches.

I am absolutely disgusted by Prop 8 but am thrilled Obama was elected.

  6. I agree, I enjoyed McCain's speech. Props to him.

I agree on all fronts re Palin. I truly hope with all my heart that she is not the future face of the Republican Party.

Re Prop 8, this is one of the saddest days of my 29.5 years of living history.

  7. i was actually torn between mccain and obama until palin came along. she was truly a dealbreaker for me.

and i'm frightened at the republican party touting her as their next shining star. FRIGHTENED.

  8. Given our current Supreme Court makeup, you have far more faith in our courts than I do.
But otherwise I'm with you on every count!

  9. Palin is a fucking whackadoodle. She makes me sick and I hope she falls into an ice fishing hole.

McCain's speech was OK, but I felt that in part, it rang hollow. I also felt his speech spoke to a partial reason why he got beat so soundly. In his speech, he made mention of last night being a proud day for African Americans. While I'm sure there were/are many blacks who remain proud of President-Elect Obama, he missed the point in that it's a proud day for many Americans of any color. It's not a black and white thing (pun intended).

I can't say I'm confident, but minimally, I am hopeful that the Court will overturn the Prop H8 decision. I think at least one of the complaints is in line to return to the California Supreme Court, so I've got my fingers crossed.
